I've thumbed through hundreds, if not thousands, of photo books over the years. The tactile experience of a photo book is distinct from poetry, fiction, and nonfiction works. How then to balance the look and feel of a photography and poetry book? After countless tiny decisions and stumbles, the result: A book that measures 8.5 x 8.5 inches, is printed on luxurious 100 lb satin paper, and wrapped in a 130 lb soft-touch lamination cover.
Ultimately, what matters most to me is the impression my book will make when a reader holds it in their hands for the first time. In that briefest of moments, the texture, weight, and shape of the book will have a wordless chat with the reader. A pact will be made about how much importance they will assign to one another, based on the reader's history with books, and lasting as long as they coexist in the same space. None of that matters if the stories inside don't move the reader. But if you must move, you must move wearing the best. I'm preaching to the choir if you're a book lover. If you're not, the words sing a bit kooky. #sorrynotsorry
I'm not the same person I was before making this book. And I won't be this version of myself after the next one. (Bliss!)
